Canadian Geese (Branta Canadensis)

  • The average life span is 10-24 years
  • Can have 1-2 pounds of droppings every day
  • Begin nesting in mid March to late April
  • The male and female with defend the nest
  • the average clutch size is 5 eggs but can range from 2-8 eggs.
  • The eggs are incubated for 28 days.
  • If eggs are destroyed the female will lay more eggs.
  • They go through molting every year during summer months (June-July)
  • They molt 20-40 days
  • Most pairs stay together their whole lives.
  • Eggs are layed in a shallow depression lined with plant material and down.
